Coffee Break Discussion: Timebanks

Coffee Breaks

Is there anywhere that we can get information on where Time banks in WI are active and thriving?

Carrie

p.s. sorry I missed coffee break! I needed it and truly miss it when I can't partake in this great experience you put out there for us all to participate in.

Food for Thought: Are person-centered planning & "personalisation" failing people within our long-term care systems?

Open Discussion

Thanks for sharing that perspective Deb! As always it's that little "something to think about" that you give that makes one think a little deeper. I appreciate that.

Food for Thought: Are person-centered planning & "personalisation" failing people within our long-term care systems?

I hesitate to say things because I am part of the "system" that aims to personalize and individualize at it's core. What I can share is observation and thought. What I have noticed, over my ventures of this past year, is that while there is an aim to "do it right".... failure becomes a question when the attempt is aimed at finding a "one size fits all" method of going about it.

That's where I see it go wrong. Trying to find answers for "the whole" when "the whole" is made up of many, many individuals who are unique in most every way. I believe as we look for answers, and attempt to actualize the concept, we can easily tear down it's very foundation. Because of this we need to remain cautious but not paralyzed by it. As a friend of mine says "we have to 'Keep it Simple'"; yet keeping it simple can be very hard when the scales are tipping so fast and furious. It's all for the right reasons, but the snail pace of bureaucracy can quickly lead to a paralyzed system. It's up to all of us to keep it going in the right direction with advocacy and learning from one another.

What did you learn about Remote Monitoring: Coffee Break 11/20/13

Coffee Breaks

something Chris talked about today that I had not thought of was the possibility of using skype or something similar if a family member could help through a situation that would bring support to a person that would be helpful. Although a member of the conversation had thought of it for a situation she could apply it to, Chris confirmed it could be done. Very cool and something I had not thought of before.

What do you think: This Is My Sister

Just for fun

Hi susan,

do you have anything going with connections for siblings? I have someone I know who may be interested in connecting? I am not going to speak for her but could let her know of your interest and see if she would be interested in joining SDS network.

If you have a picture of the handmade embroidery you made from putting the grid of your picture on fabric and then cross stiching I would love to see it! I did something similiar once with a "pointalism" project. I transferred a picture to paper using a graph and then filled in the colors with points of magic marker color. It was really cool! I would love to see how your project turned out! You sound like a person who is very gifted in the arts and with animals. Very nice story, thanks for sharing!

I have a quick little comment, but still one I think is worth sharing. I have a friend name Terri who I have known for almost 30 years. I first met Terri when I moved to Madison WI. I was someone that was paid to help Terri out where she needed. After I was done "working with" Terri, both our lives moved on in different directions.
We didn't talk for several years, however Terri called me one day out of the blue and from that point forward stayed in contact with me regularly. Terri would ask me about my family, about my pets, about how work was going and all kinds of other things that she wanted to know. She wanted to know because she cared. I couldn't believe all the things she remembered from so many years ago. I always welcomed Terri's calls and once we were talking and decided that friends really should see each other too

Terri and I for the pastt 5 years have made surethat we we have a "girls breakfast out" every month. We talk, we laugh, we eat, we share stories and then we go to work. Yes we go in the wee early morning hours when the sun is coming up. When I think about Terri, I think about the gift she gave me. Terri helps me to recognize what real friendship is all about and how important it is to keep them fresh and alive. She reminds me that it's not o.k. to let the business of everyday life get in the way of friendships that really matter. That is Terri's gift to me and I bet she has provided that same gift to others. I told Terrionce that she had agift and what I thought that was; she just smiled. I don't think she recognized it as a gift but I sure did! Thanks for letting me share.
