Designing detention and correctional facilities pose additional challenges and considerations to ensure security, safety, and accessibility. This presentation on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 1:30 – 3:00 PM, will provide an overview of the scoping and technical requirements in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) Accessibility Standards for provisions addressing holding cells and housing cells with mobility and communication features, visiting areas, and medical care facilities within detention and correctional facilities. In addition to information found in the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, the presenter will highlight additional requirements for detention and correctional facilities defined by the ADA Title II regulations.
