WisTech 2024 Training # 3 Host with the Most: Inclusive Party Planning

Be the host with the most! Join us for a fun session on hosting social gatherings with assistive technology. We’ll look at devices and tools that can help people with disabilities prepare their home, food preparation, and entertain guests. We’ll also take a quick dive into visitability and how to consider accessibility at events so guests of various abilities can participate.

Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss one or more considerations for the value of addressing social inclusion.
2. Identify assistive technology devices that can be used in three phases of private event planning.
3. Describe one or more ways to improve visitability and event accessibility so individuals with various abilities can attend.

Speaker Bios:

Ashley McLeroy began working with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services as a Rehabilitation Engineer and Assistive Technology Specialist in 2010, providing direct services to consumers at home, school, and work. Ms. McLeroy began directing the Alabama AT Act program in 2021. She is passionate about promoting assistive technology and accommodations.

Nakisha Adams is a power soccer player at the Lakeshore Foundation and currently a program assistant for APTAT. In the past she’s performed Data Entry at Red Mountain Park and was a Secretary at the Board of Education. She is currently working towards a career in Public Speaking. Nakisha was born with Cerebral Palsy, that affects the way she talks and walks.
