Session Description: Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) can provide a voice for individuals across ages and diagnoses when their speech does not meet their communication needs. This presentation will give an overview of the breadth of different AAC tools and strategies that can be used across the lifespan. Presenters will discuss basics of feature matching AAC to the individualized needs and goals of clients and demonstrate this process through several case studies. There will also be time for questions and discussion to help strengthen participant learning and critical thinking about the concepts presented.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will learn three applications of AAC technology for education, community living, and employment.
2. Participants will learn the classifications of AAC technology solutions and which professions can provide the services.
3. Participants will outline the steps needed follow for an AAC assessment and implementation. Speaker

Bios:
Abygail “Abby” Marx is a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) who has spent her career supporting individuals who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Previously she worked for over 12 years in the Waisman Center AAC Program. Abby recently joined Bridging Voice, which is a non-profit organization that supports people with ALS.

Jennifer Schubring is a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) with 19 years of experience in the field of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). She has worked in Birth-to-Three, outpatient, K-12, and private practice settings.
