Updated: Monday, December 5, 2016

On Thursday, December 15 the Federal Advisory Committee on Transportation Equity (FACTE) will be meeting. While the meeting is scheduled to last a mere two and a half hours and includes a presentation by Secretary Foxx and a briefing on FACA rules and ethics, the bulk of the meeting will be a discussion of transportation equity. The purpose of the Committee is to provide advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Transportation on comprehensive, interdisciplinary issues related to transportation equity from a variety of stakeholders involved in transportation planning, design, research, policy, and advocacy.

If you feel strongly enough about the inequities of our current transportation system to let the members of FACTE know the inequities, please write something up and email it to Barbara McCann at equity@dot.gov. You have until 2:30 pm EST on Monday, December 12 to get you comments before the committee. I strongly urge you to spend some time this weekend thinking about transportation equity. Best place to do it might be walking on a state road in the snow between any two municipalities that are, say 10 miles apart. That particular five or six hours of walking will help clarify your thinking.
