A mobile mental health clinic will discuss strategies for working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and disadvantaged and underserved populations who are experiencing a crisis situation. The webinar will focus on alternatives to police involvement, promoting client-centered communications, scene safety, de-escalation strategies, rapport building, and the role of self in crisis intervention.
Presenters:
- Berkley Carnine and Chelsea Swift from CAHOOTS (Crisis Assistance Helping Out On The Streets), a mobile crisis intervention program providing 24 hour free, confidential services in Eugene, Oregon. Each CAHOOTS team consists of a Mental Health Crisis Worker and an Emergency Medical Technician. While CAHOOTS is dispatched through local police departments, they are a mobile mental health clinic, not a law enforcement agency.
