Tuesday May 25 2021, 1:00 PM - Tuesday May 25 2021, 2:30 PM
@ Online

The next webinar in the Section 508 Best Practices Webinar Series will take place May 25 from 12:00 to 1:30 (CT) and will address how Section 504 and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act work together to provide access to information and communication technology (ICT) for federal employees with disabilities. Section 504 requires federal agencies to provide persons with disabilities an equal opportunity to participate in their programs and benefit from their services through the provision of reasonable accommodations, including assistive technology. Section 508 requires federal agencies to ensure that persons with disabilities (both employees and members of the public) have comparable access to and use of ICT.

Assistive Technology experts from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s TARGET Center and the General Services Administration’s Center for Information Technology Access (CITA) as well as an accessibility expert from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation will define and review real-life examples of the concepts of accessibility, assistive technology, and (reasonable) accommodations to demonstrate how these concepts interrelate in providing access in the federal workplace. They will also discuss barriers to information access and possible solutions to overcoming them. They will address both the pre-submitted and the live session questions.

For more details or to register, visit www.accessibilityonline.org. Questions can be submitted in advance of the session or can be posed during the live webinar. Webinar attendees can receive a participation certificate for attending the 90-minute session.

Registration closes 24 hours before the start of the session. Instructions for accessing the webinar on the day of the session will be sent via email to registered individuals in advance of the session. Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) and Video Sign Language Interpreters are available for the session and will be broadcast via the webinar platform. A telephone option (not toll-free) for receiving audio is also available.

The Section 508 Best Practices Webinar Series provides helpful information and best practices for federal agencies in meeting their obligations under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act which ensures access to information and communication technology in the federal sector. This webinar series is made available by the Accessibility Community of Practice of the CIO Council in partnership with the U.S. Access Board. All webinars are archived and available on the online archives webpage.
