DISABILITY SCOOP: States Moving Forward On ABLE Accounts

An interesting article in Disability Scoop written by Michelle Diament about how many states are taking steps to move forward on the ABLE Act. Likely due to all of the budget stuff, there hasn't been much action taken in Wisconsin yet (that we know of), but it's interesting to read what other states have done so far.States Moving Forward On ABLE AccountsBy Michelle DiamentJust months after federal lawmakers created a way for people with disabilities to save without risking their government…See More

Coffee Break Discussion: Self-Determination and the State Budget Proposal

What a great discussion about Self-Determination and the State Budget Proposal on the Coffee Break yesterday morning! Special thanks to Lynn Breedlove for joining us as our special guest!  There were several points discussed.  Some of them include:DHS says self-determination will be folded into Family Care, but the specifics of that remain unclear. This heavily relies on Federal Waivers.  It’s assumed DHS will get the waivers, although this is uncertain.  Lynn pointed out that CMS has become…See More

Coffee Break: Self-Determination and Governor Walker's Budget Proposal at Chat room on SD Network

March 5, 2015 from 9am to 9:30am
On Feb. 3, Wisconsin Governor Walker released his budget proposal for 2015-2017. Included in his proposal are the elimination of IRIS and major changes to FamilyCare, two key long-term care programs in the state.  So how do these proposed changes affect self-determination for the people who use these programs? And what can you do to let the Governor and your elected officials know about the effects of these proposed changes on your life or the life of someone you care about. Join our special…See More

DISABILITY SCOOP: Despite Setback, Feds Push Forward On Caregiver Pay Protections

Posted on April 1, 2015 at 3:00pm 0 Comments

This is an interesting article in Disability Scoop written by Shaun Heasley about the push to give in home caregivers pay protections.   In 2013, the U.S. Department of Labor extended minimum wage and overtime protections to home care workers for the first time. The rule was set to take effect at the start of this year, but was struck down in January.  The rule is currently being appealed.

I am loving retirement.  I can't remember feeling so relaxed and "In control" before.  After a year of travel, reading, and generally enjoying life, I've started to do some consulting.  For the next six months I'm handling marketing and fund raising for Leadership Wisconsin.   I hope you can come to the conference in Green Bay April 24-25: conference.leadershipwisconsin.org  I never want to work full time again, but it's fun to do enough to keep in the loop and see colleagues.  If you hear of anyone who needs a writer/editor/speaker/trainer/baker, let me know.
