Organizers Forum: Olmstead's 20th Anniversary!




Twenty years ago this month, on June 22, 1999, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in L.C. v. Olmstead that people with disabilities have a right to live in the community, and that government has a responsibility to provide supports to make that possible. The Olmstead decision has been used to protect home attendant programs and get people out of nursing homes and other institutions. Join the call to learn what is Olmstead, what are people doing around the country to get people out of institutions, and what can organizers do to honor Olmstead.  

For the first time, we'll be on video! Click the Zoom link above and turn on your webcam, or you can just call in from your phone. Unfortunately we will not have the online conference line available as in prior months. Please test your webcam and speakers before the call. 


Speakers:

Bob Kafka, revered ADAPT activist, will teach participants about Olmstead. Other speakers to be announced.

The Organizing Workgroup of the National Disability Leadership Alliance hosts these calls the third Tuesday of every month as a resource for disability organizers, in an effort toward building the organizing capacity of the disability community across the country. They generally follow the format of a Welcome followed by 2-3 experts in a given area speaking for a few minutes on their experiences, advice and challenges. The calls include a 20-30 minute question and answer period.
